Yellowstone Pictures, Gallery 22
These are all from the great summer of 2001 excursion. Just some
random and miscellaneous stuff.
Yellowstone
is so special they get Christmas twice a year! Halloween twice a
year too, but that is another story. Back in the olden days some
tourists got stranded at Old Faithful by an August snowstorm. People
back then were strange, so they decided to have Christmas. It mutated
into a tradition that continues to this day.
They
set up Christmas trees all over the park.
They
decorate the front desk. Photographers sometimes scare people who
walk into the shot they are taking of it.
They
decorate the gift shops. They sing Christmas carols. The employees
exchange Christmas gifts. Children make Christmas cards. It's
a bigger deal than that other Christmas in December.
I
have never seen any, but evidently there are enough sasquash in the area
they have taxidermists to stuff them. This was in West Yellowstone
I think. Not sure, Jennifer took this picture, and many others on
this page.
Me
and mom.
Me
pointing out some unknown thing at Pink Cone Geyser to my mom.
Me
and mom again.
Me
and my sister Jennifer.
Me
sitting in Old Faithful Lodge when my sister sneaked up on me and snapped
this picture.
My
all time favorite graphic from Yellowstone's warning signs and pamphlets.
It is so graphic and morbid, with the look of pain and surprise on the
kid's face as he breaks through seemingly solid ground into a boiling death
trap, the way his hat and camera seem to be levitating, the way the mom
is pointing and looking only mildly shocked, like she is scolding him,
not running to try and save him which probably wouldn't be a good idea
anyway as there is another hidden boiling death trap between her and her
child, and the dad is just strolling along, la la la, not even aware that
his offspring is falling to it's horrifying death. They should have
kept the kid under control, maybe read the millions of warning signs and
brochures, maybe gotten a kid leash even.
